Build the Arrow on Paper Before You Build It at the Workbench

An arrow is a system. Shaft length and GPI affect weight. Length and point weight affect dynamic spine. Inserts, broadheads, fletchings, and nocks change total weight and balance. If you make each choice separately, it is easy to build yourself into a corner.

This worksheet gives you a practical order: set the target, choose the shaft, plan the components, check spine and FOC, estimate performance, then build and test.

What the Arrow Build Worksheet Helps You Plan

1. Your Bow and Hunting Goal

Record draw weight, draw length, bow speed, expected distance, and the performance goal the arrow needs to support.

2. Target Arrow Weight

Use the Everyday Arrow Weight Formula to establish a practical target and working range before selecting components.

3. Shaft and Arrow Length

Compare shaft spine, GPI, cut length, safety clearance, and the weight the shaft contributes to the finished build.

4. Components and FOC

Plan inserts, broadheads, nocks, wraps, and fletchings while watching total weight and your 13–18% Everyday Bow Hunter FOC target.

5. Spine and Performance Checks

Record projected dynamic spine, speed, kinetic energy, and momentum so one change does not create a new problem elsewhere.

6. Final Build and Testing

Confirm actual finished weight, measured FOC, tuning, broadhead flight, and chronograph speed when one is available.

Why I Use a Worksheet

I have built hundreds of arrows and tested a lot of combinations. The lesson is not that everyone needs my exact arrow. It is that every part needs to support the same finished goal.

Writing the build down makes tradeoffs visible. If a heavier insert pushes the arrow past your weight target, or a longer shaft weakens dynamic spine, you can adjust the plan before cutting, gluing, or buying another dozen shafts.

The worksheet will not replace manufacturer spine charts, tuning, or field testing. It helps you reach those steps with a better plan.

Arrow Build Worksheet Questions

Is this an arrow spine chart?

No. Use the worksheet with the shaft manufacturer’s current spine chart and the Everyday Bow Hunter Dynamic Spine Calculator. The worksheet keeps your inputs, candidate spine, and final decision together.

Can I use it before buying arrow components?

Yes. That is one of its main purposes. Use projected component weights and calculator comparisons to test a build concept before you spend money or assemble the arrow.

Does it replace weighing and testing the finished arrow?

No. Projected values help you plan. Once the arrow is built, weigh it, measure its actual FOC, tune it, confirm broadhead flight, and use a chronograph when you want measured speed.
