Finding a good turkey vest is harder than it should be.

Some vests are cheap but poorly designed. Others are loaded with features but cost two or three hundred dollars. Most of them force you into a pocket layout that does not match how you hunt.

So this year I started looking for something different. I wanted a turkey vest that was lightweight, affordable, and flexible enough that hunters could set it up the way they want.

One of the biggest things that separates the FlexGrid vest from many budget turkey vests is the modular pouch system. Most turkey vests come with fixed pockets. If you do not like where something sits, you are stuck with it.

This vest works differently.

It uses a MOLLE style attachment system that allows you to move pouches around and configure the vest the way you want. The pouches attach using a snap style MOLLE system, which makes it easy to remove or reposition them.

This gives you a lot more control over your setup.

For example, I have some personal preferences when it comes to turkey vest layout. I like my striker pouch positioned where I can reach it instantly. I also want my calls organized in a way that makes sense for how I hunt.

Lightweight Design That Is Comfortable To Wear

Another thing I noticed right away is how light the vest feels. Right now, wearing the vest empty almost feels like wearing nothing.

Of course, once you add calls, shells, and other gear it will get heavier. But starting with a lightweight platform is important. Turkey hunting often involves covering ground and sitting for long periods.

The vest also includes padded back panels with airflow channels to help ventilation. This helps reduce heat buildup when temperatures climb during spring season.

Turkey season can get warm fast, especially when you are moving through the woods.

The ventilation helps with that.

Seat Design With Strong Magnets

If you have used turkey vests before, you probably know one of the biggest annoyances.

Weak seat magnets.

Many vests use small magnets that barely hold the seat in place. When you walk, the seat drops down and ends up hanging around your legs. It is frustrating.

The magnets on the FlexGrid seat are actually much stronger than what you usually see on budget vests. When the seat flips up, it snaps firmly into place and stays there.

That may sound like a small detail, but in the woods it makes a big difference. The seat itself also includes a waterproof bottom layer, which is important when sitting on damp ground.

Waterproof Game Pouch For Carrying Birds

One feature that stood out to me is the waterproof game pouch on the back of the vest.

If you harvest a turkey and want to carry it out in the vest, the waterproof lining helps prevent blood from soaking through onto your clothing.

That is a thoughtful addition that many hunters will appreciate. It also works well for carrying extra gear if needed.

Hydration Compatibility

Another useful feature is hydration compatibility.

The vest includes a hose port that allows you to run a hydration pack inside the vest. For hunters covering ground or hunting warmer days, having water available without carrying a separate pack can be helpful.

Blaze Orange Storage Towel

The vest also includes a blaze orange towel that can be attached when you need to move safely through the woods. This is a good idea, although I think the attachment method could be improved.

Currently it hangs from a single hook, which means it may not always display the orange as well as it could while walking.

Personally, I would prefer a two point attachment system so it spreads out more consistently. Still, it is a useful feature to have included.

Additional Optional Pouches

TideWe also offers a couple additional pouches you can add.

These include:

• An additional shotgun shell pouch

Each pouch runs about $9.99, which is pretty reasonable if you want to expand your setup.

You can also attach other MOLLE compatible pouches if you want to customize the vest even further.

Fit And Sizing

For reference, here is how the vest fits on me.

I am 5 foot 8 and about 195 pounds, and I normally wear a size large.

The vest adjusts easily using side straps that allow you to tighten or loosen the fit depending on your body size and the clothing layers you are wearing.

It felt comfortable and easy to dial in.

At this point, I have only set up the vest and tested the features at home. But so far, the FlexGrid vest checks several boxes.
