How Far Should the Arrow Rest Be From the Riser?

The distance between the arrow rest and the riser is crucial for ensuring your bow shoots accurately and consistently. This measurement, often referred to as the “center shot,” is typically set so that the arrow is aligned with the centerline of the bow when viewed from directly above.

A good starting point for most compound bows is to set the arrow rest about 3/4 to 13/16 of an inch from the riser. This measurement is taken from the riser to the center of the arrow shaft. However, it’s important to note that the optimal distance can vary slightly based on the specific bow model, the type of arrow rest you’re using, and your personal shooting style.

Others say it is best to center your arrow between 1″ and 5/8″ inch from the riser for perfect arrow alignment.

To fine-tune this setting, many archers use the paper tuning method. This involves shooting an arrow through a sheet of paper at a short distance, which helps identify any issues with arrow flight. Adjustments are then made to the arrow rest position until the arrow passes through the paper leaving a clean, straight hole, indicating that the arrow is flying true.

Remember, while this measurement is a great starting point, the best distance for your setup might require some experimentation and slight adjustments. Always prioritize achieving consistent, accurate arrow flight over sticking rigidly to specific measurements.
