If you are looking for an early season warm weather bow hunting clothing option 100% Made in the USA and worth every penny you spend on it, you might want to read this review.

Last year I set out to gather and test four different early-season hunting clothing options that I could contrast and compare to one another when I stumbled onto Forloh. At the time, I had never heard of them and decided to take a swing and test the Solair Insect Shield Hoodie and Pants.

Fast forward to now and what I’ve discovered is a high-quality company with high-quality products that are climbing the ladder of leaders in the hunting clothing industry with what they are producing. You’ll see that in this Forloh Solair Insect Shield Hoodie and Pants Review.

Reviewing Multiple Early Season Bow Hunting Clothing Systems
Here are the different early-season bow-hunting clothes I tested last season. I reviewed options from Sitka, Asio, Huntworth, and of course…Forloh.

Review Criteria

When it comes to early-season bow hunting, my criteria for clothing are specific. I look for clothes that are lightweight and breathable, and that can handle warm weather temperatures. Then, they need to offer effective moisture management to deal with sweat.

Insect protection is a definite bonus when looking at this kind of gear, so I am always looking for that. And of course, if you know me, scent control capable, deer vision optimized camo, and stealthy and quiet gear are what I want for bow hunting. You can read more about my criteria here.

As the owner of this website, I get to test a lot of hunting gear. This allows me to compare a lot of different options so you don’t have to. I’m here to provide the information you need to make the right hunting gear choices now.

So let’s get started.

Product Descriptions

FORLOH Insect Shield® SolAir Lightweight Hoodie

The FORLOH Insect Shield® SolAir Lightweight Hoodie is a cutting-edge garment designed for early-season hunting. This lightweight, breathable hoodie is equipped with Insect Shield® technology, offering long-lasting, effective, and odorless protection against a variety of insects including mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges.

The hoodie features the Deep Cover camouflage pattern, specifically engineered to deceive deer vision, prioritizing functionality over visual appeal. The hoodie is enhanced with brrr® Pro, FORLOH’s flagship cooling technology.

This technology incorporates cooling minerals into the fibers, which immediately reduces your skin temperature by 3 to 4 degrees during and after any outdoor activity.

The brrr® Pro technology also promotes hyper-wicking, expanding the fabric’s wicking properties by over 300%, enabling your shirt to dry in minutes. It also boasts a 50+ UPF rating, offering protection from prolonged sun exposure.

In addition to these features, all FORLOH’s base layers, including this hoodie, employ Polygiene® Stay Fresh antimicrobial and Odor Crunch® scent control systems. These systems work together to provide a high level of both antimicrobial and odor-adsorbing scent control.

FORLOH Insect Shield® SolAir Lightweight Pants

The FORLOH Insect Shield® SolAir Lightweight Pants are a versatile, high-tech garment designed for warm weather outdoor activities. Now enhanced with Insect Shield®, these pants offer long-lasting, effective, and odorless protection against a variety of insects including mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges.

These lightweight pants feature FORLOH’s flagship cooling technology, brrr® Pro just like the hoodie. They also offer the same Polygiene odor control technologies.

The pants are designed with articulated knees for enhanced mobility and a gusseted crotch for comfortable movement. They also feature secure pockets on the hip and seat and high-quality YKK zippers.

Forloh Camouflage

As I’ve said in previous posts, I prefer disruption-style camouflage that uses micro and macro dispersion to make the wearer “nearly” invisible to deer. Forloh’s hoodie and pants come in Deep Cover and Exposed camouflage options.

Deep Cover is built for encounters closer than 40 yards and Exposed is built for longer distances and open areas. It can also be used for late-season tree stand bow hunting. The camouflage isn’t built for the human eye, it is built to beat ungulate vision and this is an area I think Forloh’s gear excels in.

The Forloh Insect Shield Solair Lightweight Hoodie and Pants Review

FORLOH Insect Shield® SolAir Lightweight Hoodie Review

The Hoodie is priced at $109 and comes in a variety of sizes. I initially tested a Size Large but found it too big and baggy for my liking, so I exchanged it for a Medium. The Medium fit much better, offering the right balance of comfort and mobility, but was still a little baggy in the hood.

It is extremely comfortable and feels very light. It always feels cool which is a bonus. I found myself wearing this a lot through the summer and it quickly became my go-to scouting hoodie.

*I am 5’8″ tall and 185lbs. I normally wear a large top and a medium bottom.

Pros: The hoodie is lightweight, breathable, and cool; ideal for early-season bow hunting. The Insect Shield® technology is a game-changer, providing long-lasting, effective, and convenient insect protection. The Deep Cover camouflage pattern is well-designed and blends seamlessly into the environment.

The Polygiene Stay Fresh and Odor Crunch scent control is impressive, and the hoodie is extremely comfortable, almost like pajamas. The cooling effect is noticeable, and it dries sweat very quickly. The hoodie is exceptionally quiet and moves well for bow hunting, unlike the pants (more on this below).

Cons: The sizing runs a bit large, so I recommend going a size down if you prefer a more fitted option. The hood is looser than I’d like and tends to move around, even when worn over a hat. It would be beneficial if it had the option to tighten it, like a zipper or drawstring.

The hoodie also uses a white material on the inside of the hood, which seems counterintuitive considering all the other technologies incorporated into this garment for deer hunting, especially the camouflage developed to beat ungulate (deer) vision. The hoodie lacks a half-zip feature, which I would have preferred.

The Forloh SolAir Hoodie was extremely baggy even in a medium after exchanging from my normal large. You can see the white material on the inside of the hood itself. This could cause problems, but isn't a deal breaker.

FORLOH Insect Shield® SolAir Lightweight Pants Review

The Pants are priced at $179 and come in many sizes. I tested a Size Medium, and they fit perfectly.

The pants feel like a pair of pajamas. They are very light but surprised me when going through thick brush. I still got nipped by jaggers, but the pants held up very well. I felt very mobile when wearing them. They stretched and flexed when climbing trees very well.

Pros: Like the hoodie, the pants are lightweight, breathable, and cool. They are surprisingly durable, holding up decently even through rough brush. The Polygiene Stay Fresh and Odor Crunch scent control is a bonus to material already optimized with multiple technologies (and something you don’t find in many early-season clothing).

The Insect Shield® technology is equally effective in the pants, providing much-needed protection against insects. The pants are comfortable and light and feel almost like wearing pajamas. The Deep Cover camouflage pattern is optimized for deer vision.

Cons: The pants have limited pockets, with only one zippered cargo pocket on the right leg and one zippered rear pocket on the right side. If you are left-handed, you may have a problem. The pants are not treated with Durable Water Resistant (DWR) protection.

The Forloh Insect Shield SolAir is extremely comfortable and I love the camo for early season deer and turkey hunting. In my Forloh Insect Shield Solair Lightweight Pants and Hoodie Review, I found this entire setup to be OK, but not great.

Conclusion

This FORLOH Insect Shield® SolAir Lightweight Pants and Hoodie Review found that these hunting garments offer a decent solution for early-season bow hunting. They meet many of my criteria, providing excellent camouflage, scent control, and stealth.

The Deep Cover camouflage pattern, specifically designed to beat deer vision rather than to appeal to the human eye, is a great option serious hunters will appreciate.

I’ve used this combination for summer scouting multiple times, and has proven to be excellent for that purpose. It’s comfortable, wicks away sweat and dries quickly, cools you off when you stop, and provides excellent insect protection – a feature I particularly appreciate having had multiple bouts of antibiotics due to tick bites causing Lyme disease.

The top-tier scent control with Polygiene Stay Fresh and Odor Crunch is another reason I will likely wear this during the early season again next year.

These could be a more competitive option for early-season bow hunters. Despite some shortcomings, the FORLOH Insect Shield® SolAir Lightweight Pants and Hoodie have proven to be a reliable and effective combination for my summer scouting and early-season bow hunting last year.

Their performance in the field, coupled with their advanced technology and comfort, make them a worthy consideration for any serious hunter. The more I wear them, the more I like them when compared to other options.
