What the Modeling Actually Found
- There is no single best arrow speed for every hunter and every bow.
- Roughly 250 to 280 fps is a useful working range for many modern compound-bow setups.
- An arrow in the 240–250 fps range can still be an excellent close-range hunting setup, especially inside 30 yards.
- Lowering the minimum speed boundary allows the model to choose a heavier arrow with more momentum, but the hunter gives up some trajectory.
- The best starting point depends on draw weight, draw length, bow speed, normal shot distance, and the finished arrow system.

Why I Built This Study
I have built, tuned, and hunted with many arrow systems over the years. I hunt the steep mountains of Pennsylvania, where most of my shots are inside 30 yards and where quiet equipment, good arrow flight, and dependable penetration matter more to me than chasing one speed number.
My 21 years in the Army and time as a Green Beret taught me to test repeated rules instead of accepting them without asking why. I modeled these setups because I wanted to know whether 240–250 fps really defined most practical hunting arrows. The better lesson was that a useful arrow must fit the bow, the hunter, and the shots that hunter should take.

Does the study prove one speed is best?
No. That is one of the most important findings. Useful hunting speed is a range, and the right result changes with the bow and normal hunting distance.
Can I hunt with the Formula recommendation without testing it?
No. Build and test one arrow first. Confirm the manufacturer’s minimum arrow weight, dynamic spine, actual speed, tune, and broadhead flight before finishing the batch.
